The trainer

Teodora Manole has been working as an EFL teacher since 2010 and is currently Head of Teacher Training at IH Bucharest. Among her qualifications are the IH Certificate in Teaching Languages, the IH Certificate in Teaching Young Learners and Teenagers, the IH Teacher Training Certificate, as well as the Cambridge Delta (Modules 1, 2 & 3). As well as teaching learners of various ages and levels, she also provides mentoring and support for newer teachers and regularly delivers training sessions and courses on a wide range of topics. She is passionate about learning new things, and her interests include non-formal education, playing board games and improving her German.

The session

Keeping up with kids these days is no easy feat. You can’t say you’ve been around them much if you’re not up to speed on all the hottest memes, what certain emojis really mean and if no one in your classroom’s tried to zoom in on a printed picture using two fingers. And of course, it gets increasingly difficult as their patience for and interest in traditional pen-and-paper activities steadily decline.

Far from being a comprehensive guide to understanding Internet culture, this workshop aims instead at developing digital literacies in the ELT classroom by equipping the teachers with useful tools and ideas of how to make the most out of them for their students. We’ll be looking at resources that suit a wide variety of learners, so everyone is welcome, regardless which age range they’re teaching.

The last part of the session is dedicated to sharing ideas and experience, so bring along your favourite digital gems and tell us all about them over tea and cookies. On the house, of course. ?
