About CELTA

CELTA stands for “Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults”. It is the original certificate course in teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL) or teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL), and it has been running for four decades. It is highly respected and recognized globally, with 7 out of 10 employers worldwide asking applicants to have it.

Who is CELTA for

Any practising or prospective teacher of English as a foreign language can enrol on the CELTA course if:

  • they are at least 18 years of age

  • they have been educated to the standard required for entry into higher education

  • their English language proficiency level is at least C1/CEFR

The course is also for people who aim to:

  • acquire the key skills to teach English to adults professionall

  • strengthen their self-confidence as teaching professionals

  • build a successful English teaching career, including internationally
