About CELTA

CELTA stands for “Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults”. It is the original certificate course in teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL) or teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL), and it has been running for four decades. It is highly respected and recognized globally, with 7 out of 10 employers worldwide asking applicants to have it.

Who we are

International House Bucharest is an affiliate member of International House World Organisation, a global network of 160 language centres in over 52 countries.

 

Set up in 1953, International House (IH) is world-renowned for innovation in training and it’s been the spearhead in teacher training in the field of ELT for decades.

 

In fact, the first teacher training course ever, called International House Certificate (IHC), which IH started running in 1962, generated the CELTA course as we know it today. At present, around 60 IH centres offer CELTA courses around the world, and about 4,000 teachers do the course with us every year.
IH Bucharest has been running teacher training programmes such as IHC and IHCYLT for almost 20 years. However, its Teacher Training Centre was officially set up in May 2019, and it is one of the fastest-growing Cambridge-accredited centres around. Currently, we are:
– the only provider in Romania of a Cambridge-moderated training course for teachers of YLs which has a teaching practice component
– one of only two CELTA-accredited centres in Romania
– the only centre accredited to run all three modules of the DELTA course in Romania

On average, we provide every year

Ÿ 8-9 free training seminars/webinars with remarkable international trainers (Coffee@IH Bucharest)
Ÿ at least one Cambridge-moderated IHCYLT course
Ÿ one teaching contest having a free CELTA course as 1st prize (IH SuperTeacher Challenge)
Ÿ one DELTA Module 2, and Modules 1 and 3 all year round
Ÿ 5-6 full-/part-time, face-to-face/online CELTA courses
Ÿ additional teacher training events with outstanding international trainers (“Perfect 20” Conference)

Besides, IH Bucharest provides:

– classrooms equipped with modern technology
– spacious training rooms with pleasant interior design
– a library equipped with the latest teaching materials/resources
– two teachers’ rooms with computers and Internet
– a catering area equipped with a coffee maker, fridge and microwave oven
– friendly and impeccably professional staff who are always happy to help
