How valuable is the IHCYLT?
As a Cambridge-moderated course, IHCYLT is not only a sound proof of your ability to teach children and teenagers competently, but it also demonstrates to prospective employers that you are a teaching professional who invests in their continued development. So the IHCYLT, which is recognised internationally, increases you employability wherever in the world you choose to apply for a YL teaching job.
How much work do I have to put in this course?
Expect to spend about 9 hours daily on input, lesson, planning and observations, as well as a few hours at weekends working on your written assignments.
Why should I do the IHCYLT at International House Bucharest?
IH Bucharest is the only centre accredited to run in Romania the only training course for YL teachers that includes a teaching practice component. Besides, we are a very well-resourced centre with all the modern facilities needed by trainees to go through the course successfully, including some of the most supportive, competent and caring tutors in the field.
Do I have to hold the CELTA to be eligible for this course?
Not necessarily. While having the CELTA gives you the advantage of being already familiar with some of the terms and methodologies mentioned on the IHCYLT, it isn’t obligatory for you to hold a CELTA in order to be able to enrol on an IHCYLT. If you have some teaching experience with young learners, you will be accepted on this course.
Do I get enough support from the tutors during the course?
Absolutely! Besides the standard instruction you receive during the input sessions, you also benefit from guidance in your lesson planning and material design, as well as your preparation of the written assignments. Moreover, you have at least one tutorial (one-to-one meeting with the tutor) during the course.
