Tomorrow’s Leaders Are Sitting in Today’s Classrooms

Schools do more than teach subjects—they shape the people our students become. Drawing on the Erasmus+ Leaders in the Making project and practical classroom experience, this presentation explores how everyday teaching can develop confidence, responsibility, collaboration and learner agency, helping young people become resilient, future-ready citizens through small but powerful changes, routines and teaching approaches.

Diana England has been teaching English and training teachers for over four decades. As Head of Training and Teacher Development at International House Lisbon and Torres Vedras, Portugal, she works with teachers at every stage of their careers, from pre-service trainees to experienced professionals. A CELTA and Delta tutor and Erasmus+ project partner, Diana is passionate about making research practical and helping teachers create inclusive classrooms where young people develop the confidence, skills and mindset to thrive in an ever-changing world.

Josip Sobin

Josip Sobin is CEO of Jantar – International House Split and a member of the International House World Organisation Board of Directors. Since 2011, he has led a foreign language school and adult education institute, combining educational leadership, technology and business development.

Under his leadership, Jantar received the Croatian Quality mark and was recognised by the Croatian Chamber of Commerce as the most successful small business in the Split-Dalmatia region. Josip has also contributed to several EU-funded Erasmus+ initiatives focused on teacher development and educational technology. His work includes the VR4LL project, which explores the use of virtual reality in language teaching and was shortlisted for a British Council ELTons Award for Digital Innovation.

As a speaker, he brings a practical perspective on how AI, virtual reality and emerging technologies can support meaningful, engaging language learning.

Palmina LaRosa

Rethinking Education for an Unpredictable World

What is the true purpose of education in an age of uncertainty, artificial intelligence, and constant change? If schools are meant not only to prepare young people for the future but to empower them to shape it, then leadership can no longer be seen as an optional extra reserved for a few—it must become part of every learner’s journey.

This keynote explores the vision behind Leaders in the Making: the belief that leadership is not about titles or authority, but about the capacity to take initiative, collaborate, act responsibly, and create positive change. Drawing on the project’s experiences and practical examples, the session invites teachers to rethink their role—not only as educators of knowledge, but as cultivators of agency, character, and purpose.

Because the question is no longer whether our students will inherit the future. The question is whether they will be ready to lead it.

Palmina is an educational innovation specialist, teacher educator and certified professional coach with more than 30 years of experience in language education, teacher development and the promotion of future-ready competences. She is Director of Operations at AISLi (the Italian Association of Language Schools), where she leads the Future Skills Agency project, supporting schools in integrating life competencies, leadership and wellbeing into teaching and learning.

A former school leader and founder of the Coaching, Training and Development (CTD) department at Giga International House, Palmina has designed innovative pedagogical models, including the SPIRE Model, and has coordinated educational research whose findings were selected by Cambridge University Press & Assessment for publication as a case study on teacher coaching and life competencies.

An international speaker, she has presented at conferences including IATEFL, EAQUALS, TESOL Italy, DIDACTA and International House Directors’ Conferences, and is the author of numerous publications on coaching, leadership and 21st-century education.

Julie is the Head of Teacher Training at International House Bucharest and an enthusiastic CELTA & DELTA trainer. Throughout her career, she has nurtured an interest in experience design and has been an active teacher and trainer in schools on two continents, constantly innovating and experimenting with course design, schedule, teaching practice delivery and trainee group social dynamics on CELTA & DELTA courses.  She now lives in Bucharest and regularly travels (online and offline) for bespoke training courses and conferences in Europe and Central Asia.

Aniella Bușilă

Aniella is an Educational Consultant and experienced teacher trainer who has worked with teachers and schools across Romania and Moldova since 2009. Her session will focus on how Cambridge qualifications empower educators to continually refine their teaching and create richer learning experiences.

Moderator: Petru Ganj

Petru Gânj is a TEDx speaker, Marketing Specialist at International House Bucharest, and a graduate of MSc programmes in Management and Digital Marketing. A UK Public Speaking Student Champion, he combines experience in communication, branding, business and education with a natural ability to create engaging and meaningful conversations.

Through his work at International House and his involvement in educational and leadership projects, Petru is passionate about bringing people and ideas together and turning dialogue into meaningful impact. He has also contributed as a speaker at international education events, exploring the role of strategy in building strong, authentic brands. As moderator, he brings energy, clarity and curiosity to the stage, creating the space for both speakers and audiences to connect, reflect and participate.
