About CELTA

CELTA stands for “Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults”. It is the original certificate course in teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL) or teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL), and it has been running for four decades. It is highly respected and recognized globally, with 7 out of 10 employers worldwide asking applicants to have it.

    CELTA (the Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) started life in the 1960s. Although it has been revised and formalised since then, its essential principles, content and course components remain largely unchanged. This session will explain how CELTA maintains its relevance as a teaching qualification in the 21st century and give an overview of the course structure and content. Professional Development for teachers is very important and whether you’re a new teacher looking for their first teaching job, or you want to prove to employers that you have the teaching skills with a recognised certificate, CELTA is the gold standard qualification.

    Robert Marnez, Director/Team Leader at IH Lacunza San Sebastian

    Robert started his English-teaching career in 1994 at Centro Colombo Americano in Santafé de Bogotá (Colombia). He gained tremendous TEFL experience throughout the 1990s with various language schools based in Turin (Italy), as well as the British Council in Cairo (Egypt).

    Between 1999 and 2001 he gained both his CELTA and his DELTA qualifications at the British Council in Milan (Italy). He became Director of Studies in 2005 at Anderson House Bergamo (Italy) and Managing Director at International House (IH) Palma de Mallorca in 2006, when he also started running CELTA courses as a Tutor. Since then he has been a CELTA tutor with prestigious schools such as British Council Singapore, ILS Canda and Giga IH Catania (Italy). Robert is also a Cambridge-certified YLE, Main Suite and IELTS Speaking Examiner, a Cambridge Exams Team Leader and a registered translator and interpreter proficient in Spanish, Italian and English. Robert’s list of qualifications is impressive and includes a TESOL MA (Merit), a Postgraduate Diploma in TESOL, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Academic Management (Distinction) and an MA in Professional Development for Language Education with NILE/University of Chichester with a Merit grade. As if this weren’t enough, he has also recently completed Nellie Deustch’s AI-Generated Activities for ELT course and Jo Gakonga’s VoiCE Video Creation for Educators course.

    His professional creed? Excellence, and excellence again.

     

    Teodora Manole – Head of Teacher Training, IH Bucharest

    Teodora has been working for IH Bucharest since 2010. She has a wide range of experience in teaching and training, having taught a variety of courses, focused on everything from Business English to exam preparation and YL groups. As Head of Teacher Training, she contributes to designing and implementing IH Bucharest’s INSETT programme, as well as overseeing our events for external teachers, such as the Coffee @ IH series. Teodora is also one of our CELTA and IHCYLT Main Course Tutors, which means you have a high chance of meeting her if you apply for one of out teaching qualification courses. 😊

    Tim has worked in ELT for many years in a variety of roles, as a teacher, teacher trainer, academic manager, materials writer and business manager.

    He has been the Global Manager – Teacher Development for Cambridge since 2013, and is responsible for the Cambridge Teaching Qualifications, including CELTA and DELTA.
